About this property

Welcome to The Mountain Club By Kirkwood Resort

The Mountain Club By Kirkwood Resort is a mountain-side resort hotel located in Kirkwood, California, offering convenient access to skiing and outdoor activities. Positioned at 1399 Kirkwood Meadows Dr, the property is particularly well suited for winter sports enthusiasts, with four chair lifts within 200 feet and Nordic trails just across the street. The surrounding area also provides summer opportunities such as mountain biking, hiking, disc golf, tennis, and nearby alpine lakes.

Accommodation includes units with fully equipped kitchens, microwaves, and refrigerators, making it suitable for families and longer stays. While some rooms show signs of being dated, guests generally find them clean and comfortable. Noise from snowcats running overnight has been noted but does not seem to significantly disrupt sleep. Guest reviews mention helpful staff and a small hot tub, although space and temperature make it more appropriate for adults than younger children. The front desk operates limited hours, and the elevator can be slow at peak times.

On-site amenities include free Wi-Fi, free parking (including VIP spots), air conditioning, a fitness center, and a golf course. There is no pool or airport shuttle service. Dining options within the resort are somewhat limited; Monte Wolfe’s Mountain Kitchen offers American cuisine, and nearby Cornice restaurant is recommended for families. Ski rental services are conveniently located on property. Visitors should note the need to shuttle a short distance to ski schools and beginner slopes.

The Mountain Club's location provides easy access to Kirkwood Mountain Resort and neighboring Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, both well-regarded for skiing and outdoor recreation. Caples Lake offers a peaceful natural setting nearby. Reno-Tahoe International Airport is approximately a 90-minute drive from the resort. Overall, this property is a practical choice for families, ski groups, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a convenient base with straightforward amenities and proximity to mountain activities.

Amazing condo right on the mountain. I can literally ski to the lift after going down one flight of stairs. During the week there's only one bar/restaurant open in the evening so be sure to bring plenty of food. My room had a microwave and a fridge. Be aware that the snowcats may run half the night but the rooms are pretty well insulated and fairly quiet.

Our family with 3 kids stayed here over the holiday weekend for a ski trip. The staff were incredibly helpful in getting us checked in and ready for skiing. One of our kids was crying over some issue and one of the staff took them over and got them some snacks and drinks and it made their day! They got us a parking spot in the garage of the club, no need to park down the mountain. The hot tub was working (prior reviews claimed it is out of service but looks like they got it fixed). It is fairly small and hot so the kids didn't last long, it's better suited for adult groups than families. The rooms are decent, a bit dated but everyone was perfectly comfortable. Had all the appliances we needed and everything seemed fairly new. The door code wasn't working and took the front desk a bit to get it working but they helped us quickly. The elevator was very slow and most mornings there was a long line in the morning, but nothing too bad. There is a great family restaurant (Cornice) that is open until 9pm right across the street. In the morning you have access to food, coffee, ski shops, tickets, right close to the front door. You can walk to the Gondolas, but if you have beginner skiers or want to go to ski/board school you need to take the shuttle two stops down to Timber Creek so budget some time to shuttle over. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it had everything you would need for a ski in / ski out stay at Kirkwood for a family.

Full disclosure, I'm a condo owner. I don't understand why people go to crowded Lake Tahoe, when you could have the solitude of Kirkwood. You can't beat the location for skiing, 4 chair lifts within 200' of the building accessing 50% of the mountain and Nordic trail access is across the street, equipment rentals are in the same building. In the summer mountain biking trail network is right out the front door, there is free disc golf, tennis, and pickle ball, and 4 alpine lakes within 15 min drive, and tons of hiking nearby. The rooms are a little dated but clean, but plans for a remodel are in the works. Most units come with fully outfitted kitchen. You'll want the kitchen as evening dining options at Kirkwood are limited to non existent. The hours of front desk being staffed are limited to 9 am to 4 pm, but when they are there they are friendly and will do whatever they can to assist you.

We really only skied at Kirkwood Resort and ate our lunches at the Mountain Resort complex. Known for the abundant annual snow fall, the skiing is great. This Resort is spread along a ridge, so the total descent on the trails are only the height of the ridge. You find yourself going up and down a fair bit. However the elevation (base @ 7,800 ft & highest elevation @ > 10K ft) and the snow volume make this a really reliable place to ski. Also known for ots dry (relatively, for the Sierras) powder. The Resort itself really could be better. Very few dining options, and the surrounding area has no power grid feed, so services are extremely limited. We were stuck in the area during a major snow storm (skiing was closed entirely by noon due to high winds), and found that we had to make do with what stash of food we had brought. All the service workers bailed, so restaurants had to close, because it was announced that Highway 50 was to close after 4 pm. In addition, the Kirkwood Meadows Public Utility, which supplies power to Kirkwood Meadows Resort, has really poor public communications. There was NO announcement regarding power outage in the area, when power outage from San Francisco through neighboring NV was all over national news!

Not having been to Kirkwood in 10+ years I was shocked that you can no longer see the cross-country meadows as you drive in to the lodging area. There are homes everywhere the entire way in, it just really blew my mind, they are gorgeous, but like I said all over. We stayed at the Mountain Club in the beginning of August mid week. The views were breathtakingly beautiful from the room and parking lot. The mountain was not running in any capacity, no lifts for rides or mountain biking, there were no services, no restaurants. We specifically asked if the pool and sauna are available when booking which was yes, but upon checking in we were told they were closed. Basically it's a ghost town in August, which was fine, we were there for a fishing trip down the road. The lifts do run, but only on Saturday and Sundays for mountain biking. The room was nice, parking was easy, and I'd love to be where we were for a winter stay! One star removed for lack of pool and sauna availability during our stay.

My first time at Kirkwood and I loved it! I purchased an Epic Pass this season so I've been slowly visiting all of the ski resorts in Tahoe. Kirkwood is small but it is perfect for beginners - there is an entire area with just greens and blues. Not too crowded either! I stayed at one of the rooms right on the slope. It was great! I have no complaints. We had a view of the lifts and our stay was comfortable. The room a little dated but was extremely clean. Overnight parking was a bit inconvenient since it is located in a specific lot about half a mile away from our hotel room. I loved that Kirkwood had "shuttles" between the two ski lift areas and that our room came stocked with granola bars. I even saw some Kirkwood staff walking around with a basket of granola bars passing them out to people! The only "con" I can think of at Kirkwood is that the restaurants and shops are realllyyyy limited past 5pm. I came in December and there was one bar open at night and the menu was small. Kirkwood village is pretty non-existent and the small store is really expensive! Next time, I will bring an assortment of instant noodles so I don't go hungry in my hotel room. The room did have a coffee maker and a microwave.

We have a lovely little room for our family overlooking the plaza. The convenience of a room next to the lift is the children want to go to the room and hang out there. The locker room and club amenities have been top notch this season.

We booked a small room. Besides being small, other things are fine. This time we were allowed to park at the VIP parking lot throughout our stay. That's only 30 seconds walking distance. Much better than 2 years ago.
